The Pioneer BDP-LX91 is a high performance Blu-Ray player, designed to excell at turning the vast quantity of information on the BD discs into fantastic images. This it does superbly, feeding the vast quantity of picture and multichannel audio information down the HDMI link to your AV receiver / monitor. If you use a Pioneer receiver / mionitor then the KURO link feature will lock the clocks of the units together so the system runs as one to reduce jitter. Eradicating this digital clock noise helps reduce errors in the information stream and produce better pictures.

Being profile version 2 means compatible monitoring devices can make use of the xvYCC extended Colour Gamut ans 12bit Deep colour output.
In english: some new discs being made make use of the massive storage capacity of Blu-Ray and store more colour information. The profile 1.1and above, machines can read and relay this to compatible monitors producing a hugh spectrum of colour with immense contrast abilities. Full audio streaming of the raw data is available for your decoder to much on as well. Dolby and DTS have produced amazingly life like, detailed and intricate sound fields with thire propirotry uncompressed HD formats. The BDP-LX71 will stream this information into the heart of a receiver/amplifier for decoding into 8 channel of sound at better than CD quality.

*Profile 2 features. This is the next step for Blu-Ray machines and brings a new level of interactivity. To meet the profile 2 standard machines need to have 1GB of local storage, this allows the interactive content to flow more freely. A second video decoder must be present for PiP features and a second audio decoder. This is typically used for audio commentry etc.
What really sets these machines apart is the Ethernet connection. Unlike earlier machines with Ethernet, profile 2 machines will be able to access the internet bringing interactive content to your screen related directly to the information on the disc. As this new side to Blu-Ray takes off more details will ecome available.
*(storage on profile 1.1 is 256MB and the extra decoders are also on 1.1 machines)

So far not much appears to be different from the other Blu-Ray machines on offer from Pioneer other than the Profile 2 compatability.
This is no shiny GTi version of the other players however. The processing is taken to new levels with High Bit processing vor video, a high quality video scaler and 297 MHz / 12 bit video encoder DAC.The construction of the chassis is triple layered to eliminate any vibration from external sources and dampen any internal vibrations. The audio processing is truely audiophile with high quality D/A conversion. Terminals are solid gold plated and the power transformer is a superior design to make sure there is a clean supply for all the circuits.

RS232 is provided for precise control from AV control systems aslo.
