Projectiondreams proudly presents a range of carefully selected speakers to ensure that the cinema auditory experience can be replicated or indeed exceeded in your own home! Speaker characteristics Guide… Most top notch cinemas feature horn speakers, once prohibitively expensive for the domestic environment horn speakers can now be sourced cost effectively. The best speakers for dedicated cinema systems and very good with music as they have a very forward but warm presentation. Naturalness of dialogue is almost unmatched by other speaker variants.
Again, the very best cinemas employ THX and Horn speakers; with THX you can have a SELECT 2 setup for smaller rooms or an ULTRA 2 for larger rooms. Excellent for movies, not so hot for music, with a few notable exceptions, namely the klipsh speakers...
A very clear, detailed sound with crystal clarity, no other speaker can make you feel you are there in the way that Electrostatics can. Must be partnered with a power amp that leans to warm. Wonderful with music as well. My personal favourite speaker technology.
I own Magnepans at the moment, but for an expansive and imaging sound I feel a great ribbon is king, trouble is there are few great ribbon speakers to touch Magnepan. Certainly though, better for music than movies unless carefully setup.
These are normally high-end digital speakers with amplification built in, expensive but a great all rounder. The Meridian speakers are stunning, great with music and movies and though they use the direct array principles they have taken this almost as far as any manufacturer could with pure digital throughout, free of colouration.
Originally, direct array speakers, with different drive units operating within different frequency ranges that employed crossovers to blend the frequencies, were a cheap alternative to Horns (which were too expensive to replicate within the home). Ideally sound should be point source, consisting in real life of a mix of different frequencies which can emanate from the same place, direct array speakers can’t really manage that, though the very best direct array speakers are seamless in creating the illusion that the frequencies are together. I will only sell direct array speakers that I feel achieve a great blend of frequencies with no obvious phase problems. If you already have an A.V. Receiver, Power amp, Pre amp etc. please contact me so that I can assist you in choosing the best speakers to ensure the perfect match for audio accuracy. The aim is to achieve a balanced sound where dialogue sounds natural, bass deep with treble & mid range accurate and sharp without sounding "shrill". Mismatched components, whatever the price, can still result in an audio mess. Speaker optimisation can be arranged and audio calibrated as professionally as video can. HAAC professional criteria and THX principles are used in conjunction with acoustic measurement to achieve that perfect sound every time... |
